Painting or re-painting a large warehouse like a Amazon Distribution Center requires careful planning and preparation to ensure a successful outcome. Here are the steps involved in the process of painting a large warehouse:
Assess the condition of the warehouse: Before starting the painting process, it is important to assess the condition of the warehouse. This includes checking for any moisture or mold problems, lead paint, corrosion, and other issues that may affect the painting process2
. Move or protect the contents of the warehouse: If the warehouse is still in use, it is important to move or protect the contents of the warehouse to prevent damage during the painting process3
. Cover the floor: Covering the floor with drop cloths or plastic sheeting can help protect it from paint spills and drips3
. Sand the walls: Sanding the walls can help remove any peeling paint or other imperfections that may affect the adhesion of the new paint3
. Use a primer coat: Applying a primer coat can help the new paint adhere better to the walls and provide a more even finish3
. Paint the walls: Once the preparation work is complete, it is time to paint the walls. It is important to use high-quality paint that is rated for industrial use and can withstand the conditions of the warehouse6
. Divide the warehouse into sections: Dividing the warehouse into sections can help make the painting process more manageable. It is best to start with the walls, then move on to the floor and ceiling6
. Paint from top to bottom: When painting the walls, it is best to start at the top and work your way down. This can help prevent drips and ensure a more even finish6
. Apply the cutting in and wet edge technique: The cutting in and wet edge technique involves using a brush to paint the corners, top, and bottom of the walls before using a roller to fill in the rest of the wall. This can help ensure a more even finish6
. Allow the paint to dry: Once the painting is complete, it is important to allow the paint to dry completely before moving any contents back into the warehouse.
In conclusion, painting a large warehouse requires careful planning and preparation to ensure a successful outcome. By following these steps, you can ensure that your warehouse looks fresh and new while also protecting it from damage and wear and tear.

Amazon Fulfilment Centre, London Distribution Park in Tilbury
The centre comprises a total of 2,204,664 sq. ft. of process and storage space arranged over four floors and also includes a two-storey office block totalling 100,000 sq. ft., with associated welfare facilities. In addition, the project includes a 1,700-space multi-storey car park, a service yard with ancillary buildings, service roads and an external car park. The car park is constructed using predominantly pre-cast concrete construction for the piled foundations, with ground beams and a structural frame. The service area provides 94 lorry parking spaces and an additional area of truck parking offering a further 73 spaces.
When Amazon needed a new fulfilment centre in London, they chose Tilbury Distribution Park. The building had beenerected in just four months by a local contractor, using a modular construction system. It was a big job and they needed it done quickly and efficiently.
We started by carrying out a full survey of the building. This is essential to make sure that we understand the layout and construction of the building so that we can create a bespoke paint scheme.
The next step was to create a specification for the paint system. This involved specifying the type of paint, the number of coats and the colour scheme. We took into account the fact that the building would need to be able to withstand the rigours of constant use.
The final step was to carry out the work itself. Our team of painters worked around the clock to get the job done on time. They did a great job and the finished result looks fantastic.
We are proud to have played a part in Amazon’s continued success.
